EMOTIONAL REGULATION
" We are wired to do hard things" - Dr. Jody Carrington Kids These Days
We're fans of Dr. Jody Carrington, and her work aligns with what is repeated throughout literature; for kids to learn emotional regulation we need to be modelling it for them. As we all adjust to new life situations; that can be challenging and we're all going to "flip our lids" from time-to-time. We want to help you know how to put your lid back on in times of stress, but also how you can support your kiddos to do the same. Dr Carrington talks about how we are wired to do hard things, but we're also wired for connection.
Kids can't learn to regulate if they never dysregulate, but we need to connect with them in their hardest moments. We won't be perfect at this, and it is hard but if we stumble repair, repair, repair.
As our page progresses we hope that this section can be a place where we discuss emotional regulation, provide information for parents/guardians and kids.

Have a watch as to how Dr. Carrington explains how kids look to you, a parent, guardian, educator to self-regulate, when they flip their lids.

“Every time you hear yourself say, that kid is “attention seeking”, replace it with that kid is “connection seeking”, and watch your perspective change”.⠀-Dr. Jody Carrington
